About
Contemplative Yoga Teacher Training is a comprehensive RYS 200-hour certification program informed by mindfulness-awareness meditation.
This training offers in-depth engagement with the hatha and vinyasa yoga systems, including their physical, energetic, mental and spiritual aspects. Students will also study the history, theory and philosophy of the yoga tradition, as well as explore contemplative practices.
We aim to train compassionate, informed teachers for whom practice is more than the mat, more than the cushion—it's a way of being in the world.

Thinking in threes
Handy triad formulations provide a conceptual framework for thinking about the building blocks of CYTT. We begin with Body + Breath + Mind = Yoga. The way we teach unpacks this triad into more triads: Asana + Alignment + Anatomy = Body; Pranayama + Mindful Speech + Subtle Body = Breath; Dharana + Compassion + Contemplative Practice = Mind; and Teaching to the Body + Teaching to the Heart + Teaching to the Mind = Contemplative Yoga Teacher.
Training the mind
Training the mind is experiential as well as intellectual. Vedanta and Mahayana Buddhism systematically guide our study and meditation paths. We deepen our fundamental inquisitiveness to allow us to actualize our true nature and fully assimilate the teachings into the present moment. Through this contemplative lens grounded in non-duality, our approach to the study of the history, theory, and philosophy of yoga reflects upon our personal relationships to the teachings.
Connecting through embodied experience
Awareness resides in the body. As a contemplative training, our curriculum draws on our teachers' personal experiences and practices. In addition to learning asanas, we will explore Teaching Presence and Space Awareness Training, Experiential Anatomy, Contemplative Performance Training, Karma Yoga, Pilgrimage, and how to connect with the natural world through the senses.
